Tldr: The 8 core is an absolutely excellent cable that I think works really well with ZMF Atrium, provided the rest of the chain can help offset the forward nature of Atriums mids if needed. This cable has an exceptionally well balanced and smooth tonality (but with a noticeable treble presence), great dynamics and transients that really makes the textural abilities of the Atrium shine. Electric guitars, bass and electronic music can sound so darn crunchy and vibrant, at least if the rest of your gear can do them well. Since I haven’t heard the 4 strand I have no idea how it measures up, if the double amount of cable really is “worth” it. Neither can I definitively say that this is the best cable at this price point, as I honestly have not heard many at all, and none at this price point. But I know I have been extremely happy with the cable I bought and the way it matches the Atriums and the rest of my system.

Background: I bought my cable back in August, 2m 8 core with Aeco Rhodium XLR connector. I remember it definitely changed with burn-in, especially notable with the treble being kinda harsh until the 20 hour mark somewhere. By now it should have played maybe about 500 hours or so, connecting a pair of ZMF Atriums to a ZMF Aegis amplifier that has been run with a bunch of different tubes, with a Holo Audio Cyan 2 behind (and cabling from Regal, who make neutral sounding cabling).

Looks and ergonomics: I bought the cable with clear casing, and I think it looks beautiful. It’s really showing off the texture of the silver, which is assembled in a loose and thick braid that makes it look like something out of a sci-fi movie. Despite its size it is very easy to move around, but the weight is noticeable if I let it hang between my head and my amp rather than rest on the desk. Consider getting enough cable that you can have its weight offloaded on your lap or desk or something.

Tonality: The tonality of the cable is excellently smooth throughout, making for really beautiful treble, mids and bass. There is good energy in the treble but also a very solid and well defined body in the lower registers. At first I was afraid the energy in the top would be too much, but the Atriums can produce some absolutely beautiful treble, and the excellent lows and mids really help balance it out. It does make them a little bit less forgiving when there is sibilance in the recording than a darker cable, but generally I think this tonality fits the Atriums really, really well.

Do however note that the ZMF Atriums are tuned in a way that brings voices forward, and the 8 core Lavri cable wont help to mitigate that. I don’t listen to a lot of music where this is an issue, but with mixes that *really* want to make the singer pop out (i.e. Crash Test Dummies – Sacred Alphabet) other cables have been a better match.

For comparison my main reference would be the ZMF Palladium cable, which is less full-bodied in the lower mids and bass, and a bit rawer (less smooth) in the treble and upper mids. It does help with making voices sound just a little bit less forward, but generally I think the Lavri is a better match with the Atriums in my system.

Dynamics: The dynamics are excellent. Really sharp microdynamics make textures and inter-tonal information appear really well defined. (When your chain can produce it, this is just a cable after all.) As texture is where the Atriums excel I think this cable brings out the best in them, at least across the few I have tested.

Imaging and details: Again, excellent. On one hand it’s probably the extra treble energy that helps details stand out, but there is also a really good sense of clarity that helps with imaging. Again, the cable isn’t going to do something the system isn’t doing, but when the rest of the system can perform I think this cable wont hold anything back.

  2. Lavricables

“…Often people say silver cables are for more clarity and brighter sound, I don’t see that is true when you have a quality silver cable like this. Good silver cables have a transparent sound with maximum clarity, but it’s never bright and sharp. It’s more on the neutral side, with clear but silky transients. The upper treble has some velvety airiness to it that a copper cannot replicate, it’s addictive and you will find it lacking going back to copper after.”
